National Bank donates desks to Chitipa Model School

National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc has donated desks, note books and textbooks worth K10 million to Chitipa Model Primary School in Traditional Authority Mwabulambya.

Speaking during the donation on Tuesday, Chitipa NBM team leader Auckland Mjima said the donation is in line with the bank’s corporate social responsibility.

“The bank understands that children are the future of our nation and they need to have a conducive learning environment for them to achieve their academic goals and build a better Malawi,” he said.

Mjima urged the school authorities to ensure that the items are protected to serve their intended purpose.

Kawale Zone Primary education adviser Jane Mukumbwa thanked NBM for the donations, saying it will help provide a conducive learning environment at the school.

“It was a challenge for girls to participate during class while sitting on the floor,” she said.

Mukumbwa said girls will now be free and motivated to participate in lessons just as boys.

She assured the bank that they will monitor the items to ensure that they are properly used.

A Standard Eight learner Prosper Ngwira commended the bank for addressing the challenges girls faced at the school.

“The desks will motivate girls to remain in school. There are those who left school due to lack of desks and I hope they will return in the next academic year,” she said.
